Ava DuVernay and Autumn Riley

The birth of Ava DuVernay was on the 24th day of August on the 24th of August, 1972 in Long Beach California. DuVernay received support from her Aunt Denise at the age of an infant. She was night nurses to afford her aunt to have the time she needed throughout the day for the love of art, literature, and theater. DuVernay was captivated by the 1961 movie West Side Story after her aunt showed her to DuVernay. DuVernay discovered through her example that art could be an instrument for social activism. DuVernay's mother also had a social consciousness and taught DuVernay to express herself via the medium of art. DuVernay resided in Compton throughout her childhood, but she was able to spend summers with the extended family of her father living in Lowndes County Alabama. The father of DuVernay's recollects seeing the historical march of the Civil Rights Movement on the Edmund Pettus Bridge. It was located in Selma Alabama, a neighboring city. The summers she spent in Alabama's Selma influence her later on to create an animated film on the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. DuVernay was a graduate from Saint Joseph High School Lakewood California in the year 1990. DuVernay went to the University of California Los Angeles upon graduation. There she was awarded qualifications in English as well as African American Studies. DuVernay began to develop an interest in journalistic broadcasting while in school. She worked as a CBS News intern during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay remembers being assigned to watch the home of a member of the jury, and then go through their garbage. DuVernay was dissatisfied with her journalism tasks and decided to move into the field of public relations. DuVernay was offered a job straight from college, working as a publicist in the young age of a studio. From this position she started her own public relations company known as The DuVernay Agency in 1999. Apart from PR, the agency also launched several lifestyle and promotional networks including The Urban Beauty Collective, Urban Thought Collective, Urban Eye and HelloBeautiful. She is a performer, most well-known for American Experience (1987) and A More Perfect Union (2009). Autumn was Rose from A More Perfect Union as also Anna Payne from American Experience.
