Pom Klementieff
Pom Klementieff was born May 3rd, 1986.
She was a student at the Cours Florent drama school, Paris. She has appeared in
films such as Loup 2009, Sleepless Night 2011 and Hacker's Game 2015. She is
the Mantis character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Guardians of the
Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017), Avengers: Infinity War (2018) and Avengers: Endgame
(2019). Pom Klementieff was born in Quebec City, Canada, to the parents of a
Korean mother and French-Russian father who was working as a consul there for
the French government. Eugene Klementieff was her grandfather. Pom was her name
due to the fact that it sounds similar to the Korean words "spring"
and 'tiger" in Korean. Klementieff resided in Canada for a short time
before her family travelled extensively due to her father's job. After moving
to France, Klementieff resided in Japan. Her father passed away from cancer
when she was just 5 and her mother suffered from schizophrenia and was unable
to take care of children and so Klementieff was cared for by her aunt and uncle
who were paternal. Her uncle, who she described as "like her second
father" passed away when she turned 18 and her brother who was older took
his own life just seven years later, but this time on her 25th birthday.
Klementieff briefly went to law school after her uncle's death to please her
aunt, but didn't find the profession path appealing. In France, she worked as a
waitresse and saleswoman. She started acting at age 19 in the Cours Florent
drama school in Paris. She was just one month in studying when she won an
audition for a stage show that gave her two years of class with the top
teachers in the school. The first role she had in professional acting was the
French independent film Apres lui (2007), acting as the stepdaughter in the
film of the lead character, who was played by Catherine Deneuve. The filming
process was a three-day process. One scene saw Klementieff pushing someone down
the set staircase, only to fall. Gael Morel saved that footage for the final
film. Her first lead role was in Loup (2009), a French film about a group of
reindeer herders located in the Siberian mountains. Klementieff spent filming
hours in an isolated camp away from the closest village. The temperature
plummeted to below zero during filming.
